South Sand Island
South Sand Island is a great shallow dive site consisting of a large sandy area with a dramatic, curving crescent coral formation on the East side. A short swim to Mid Sand Island, this is a very popular spot on the reef. A small coral head to the South is always teeming with Damsel Fish and Blue Chromis. Closer to shore in the even shallower water is a wonderful display of Elkhorn coral and good photo ops for juvenile tropical fish.
Plenty of schooling fish including Grunts, Snappers and Schoolmasters can be found at the South end of the reef, but be sure to keep an eye out for the Eagle Rays and Nurse Sharks that like to cruise through.
A perfect site for new as well as experienced divers. A 20 to 25 foot maximum depth means plenty of bottom time.
