What is Avelo?

It weighs a fraction of traditional scuba gear, and is much less cumbersome to wear and use. Divers learn how to use this system in their Recreational Avelo Dive (RAD) course.

What is the Avelo System?

The Avelo System is a complete diving system that is unique to the market. It pairs a Hydrotank and a Jetpack to form a streamlined, lightweight setup that uses water, rather than air, for buoyancy control. This innovation gives divers stable neutral buoyancy throughout the dive with less weight, reduced drag, and minimal task loading, making every dive smoother, safer, and more enjoyable.

How does Avelo work?

An Avelo diver begins their dive slightly positively buoyant on the surface. Then you add water to the Hydrotank to establish neutral buoyancy, then dive. Much like how a submarine floods tanks to sink. Buoyancy stays stable regardless of depth changes. When you have breathed enough gas that you become lighter, the diver adds a small amount of water. Fine-tuning comes naturally through breathing, eliminating constant adjustments.

Where is the BCD on the Avelo System?

The Avelo System is a Buoyancy Control Device (BCD) that uses water instead of air. It offers a lighter, more intuitive option while respecting standard gear.

What happens if something on the Avelo System breaks?

Nothing changes immediately. Buoyancy remains stable and easily manageable to complete the dive, including any required safety stops. A ruptured bladder will immediately self-seal against the inner wall of the Hydrotank. The positive pressure air inside the bladder does not allow water to enter, and the gas remains contained.
